Pueblo of Acoma

Known as "Sky City" Acoma Pueblo is situated on top of a mesa, hundreds of feet above the surrounding land. It commands a breath taking view of the countryside, other mesas and the distant mountains....No wonder it is called Sky City. The Acoma moved to this mesa to defend themselves against raids by the Apache and Navajo. Not once did an attack against Sky City succeed until the Spanish came in the late 1500's.
