Crafts...and the Museum.

After we were off the mesa we went to the museum...and Robert who works there and also he came to our show...told me his mother was in the museum. The Pueblo are very talented with pottery and his mother is actually one of the Matriarchs on Display so it was an honor to meet Robert and see his Mother's(Juana Leno) pottery. After this wonderful day.....This is what the New Mexico sky looked like. It was a blessing to be able to see and learn so much about the Pueblo culture and thanks to all the Pueblo for making us feel so welcome. Tobi

Food Glorious Food!!!!!

Well everyone knows one of the best way to learn about a culture is to eat the food. It was really neat because as we walked through the reservation the Pueblo had food and crafts if you wanted to try it or take something home. So I have to be honest...we had Frybread...Plain and with sugar...we had a frybread apple pie..which Brenda is eating.. then we had cookies..and last but not least we had a Tamale which was the best Tamale I have ever had.......So yes the food is great. And my waistline is proof of that.Tobi

Coming down the Mesa!!!!!

We had the chioce to go down to the museum by shuttle or we could walk the path off the Mesa. Well you see that road off in the distance in the picture to the right.....that's where we are going and we decided to walk...

This is Lisa on the top of the mountain and in the picture to the left we are going down the path. Everything is all hunky dory still because the path is marked and it isn't too steep....

To the left is a rock clearing and everything is beautiful and fine....Until I get through the clearing....and then it hits me...I have a panic attack. Go figure-- I ride roller coasters, I have jumped off the Swiss Alps and parasailed but I can't walk down a path....

Rachel, Brenda and Lisa are all waiting on me and I am having a moment....So after a few big breaths and everyone carrying all my stuff.....I am past the point and almost down the mesa.....
YAaaaaa..... just this rock and I am on the ground....Needless to say everyone made it down and I now know i am afraid of heights. At least when I am on foot.....Tobi

Pueblo Of Acoma

Acoma, which means People of the White Rock, has been inhabited since before the 12th century. Most of the present day people have residences in other parts of the reservation or in several farming villages, but at no time is the Pueblo on the mesa without several families living in the old houses caring for the Franciscan Mission church of San Estevan, established in 1629, which, with the entire pueblo, has been proclaimed a National Historic Landmark.

The Acoma society is a matriarchal and the woman owns the dwellings and the household possessions. The youngest daughter in each family inherits the pueblo dwelling. In the case where a family has only boys, the youngest daughter of the youngest son will inherit the dwelling.
Acoma Pueblo consists of rows of Centuries-old, two and three story Adobe buildings that intentionally lack electricity and running water. Attending a dance here is a memorable experience. the dancer and singers emerge from the kiva, descend tall ladders and make their way to the small central plaza.the drummer begins the cadence and the steady thumping of feet resounds off the earth, complemented by the percussive sound of rattles and bells tied to the dancer's limbs. Still most families maintain homes on the mesa top, which they occupy during many multi-day celebrations.

Pueblo of Acoma

Known as "Sky City" Acoma Pueblo is situated on top of a mesa, hundreds of feet above the surrounding land. It commands a breath taking view of the countryside, other mesas and the distant mountains....No wonder it is called Sky City. The Acoma moved to this mesa to defend themselves against raids by the Apache and Navajo. Not once did an attack against Sky City succeed until the Spanish came in the late 1500's.

The trip to the reservation!!

Well our day started off with Daniel driving us through the desert. We stopped at the top of a mountain overlooking Sky City....As you can see Sarah doesn't walk very well and we almost lost her over the cliff.....Funny thing is if you notice no one is helping her but we are taking pictures....

This is something I have never seen....On the top of the mountain there is this truck and as we get closer we notice it is the Mountain View Gift Shop.....How cool is that. Inside there were great handcrafted jewerly and the jeweler was making more to put out on display. He was very nice and the view was incredible from atop this mountain. Thanks Daniel for the scenic drive....Tobi

Sky City Casino!!!

Let me thank the staff at the casino for treating us so great. This is a picture of the band with Chandler who was a most gracious host. Not only did he make sure we had everything we needed, but he also took us to the reservation where we could get some history in person. Thank you to the staff and the people who came to the show for a great time out west... thanks....Tobi Lee

Flying out west.........Sky City Casino

Every once in a while we get to jet set to our shows and plane rides can be a lot of fun. I have to say flying five hours beats driving 19 hours across the country. This is just us on the plane.....Then we arrive in New Mexico and the limosine picks us up to take us to the hotel and casino. So let me give you a lay out of our trip....Arrive at the casino.....eat....gamble....gamble.....gamble...go to sleep...wake up ....eat.....sound check....gamble.....gamble.....check out the Colgate Country Showdown......Gamble..play our show..gamble....eat....gamble....get up on sunday after gambling all night...take a tour of the reservation....gamble....eat....gamble. We were set to leave at 4:30 in the morning so rachel and I stayed and closed the casino down. Yes, we gambled all night. For those of you who visit the Sky City Casino I would like to say their new bathrooms are a result of Rachel and my gambling...Ha!!!!!

Once the limo finally picked us up--because they forgot to pick us up and we missed our plane--we were in the slow process of getting back home. But let me say the limo ride was not slow. We were thrown to the left....then to the right and at one point we all ended up in the front of the limo!!!!! But we made it home and we had a great time....The best advice I can give is .....Don't gamble....Buy clothes instead!!!!!!Tobi

birthday blast!!!!

Well this year we went to a haunted house again....and it was so much fun!!!! The girls did the coolest thing with the cake. When we were leaving the haunted woods they had a coffin and the coffin opened and with lit candles dracula said.....Happy Birthday . These are a few pictures from the party with the whole band and one husband and two boyfriends. Once again I can't thank you all enough. These past few years have been some of the best years of my life. I am so blessed to have a group of friends like you to share my life and career with.....Thank you all and I love you...Tobi
